As Oahu photographers we have had the opportunity to stay at many fun resorts and hotels in Oahu. Some of our favorites are Disney Aulani, Ilikai and Turtle Bay. Although Oahu is not the largest Hawaiian island, finding a place to stay can be surprisingly difficult for such a little island.
Perhaps you're looking for a more laid-back and genuine vibe, or perhaps you enjoy huge cities, people watching on hot beaches, and having dozens of dining options at your disposal.
Whatever your taste, you can easily customize your Oahu trip to fit your needs, even if it means alternating between locations for a more well-rounded experience.
Check out our Oahu locations page for photos of some of these locations.
Honolulu, Ko Olina, the North Shore, and the Windward Coast are the four primary areas of Oahu where accommodations are available. We would like to believe that, having spent two years living on Oahu and innumerable vacations on its sunny beaches, we have a solid understanding of the various neighborhoods and the plethora of lodging alternatives available.
This is your go-to resource for choosing a place to stay on Oahu! We discuss the various areas as well as the top hotels in each.
When it comes to lodging, Honolulu and Waikiki are without a doubt the most sought-after destinations in the area. The majority of travelers will base their excursion to Oahu here. We are discussing more than 4 million individuals annually! Waikiki is a neighborhood of Honolulu, the capital of Hawaii, albeit it can be a little difficult to understand.
When Waikiki is at its finest, it's conveniently placed, offers a wide range of lodging options from affordable to luxurious, is incredibly walkable, has mouthwatering culinary options, and has dozens of activities at your fingertips. In its worst form, Waikiki may be obtrusive, packed, pricey, and somewhat manufactured.
Waikiki
With its ideal location between Ko Olina and the North Shore, 20 minutes from the main airport, and encircled by some of Oahu's top attractions, Waikiki is right in the middle of everything. This is an excellent starting location for a tour of the circle islands.
Surfing, snorkeling, and sunset cruises are just a few of the enjoyable things available. Historic locations like Pearl Harbor and Iolani Palace also cater to history buffs. Children will adore the Waikiki Aquarium and Honolulu Zoo. Did we also mention upscale shopping and delectable eateries for foodies? Waikiki offers a wide variety of food options and activities. Additionally, this is the greatest place for nightlife if you're a night owl.
